n. pl. detritus
: 1. loose fragments or grains that have been worn away from rock. 2. a. disintegrated or eroded matter: the detritus of past civilizations. b. accumulated material; debris: 3. debris: the remains of something that has been destroyed or broken up. 4. a new kind-of bookstore selling independent print media.

DETRITUS stocks its shelves with an eclectic selection of chapbooks, zines, artist books, broadsides, and other independent print media. We take 50% of our inventory from local artists, writers, and publishers. The remaining half of our inventory comes from respected distributors and publishers previously unavailable in the area. Whenever possible, we’ll work directly with the artist or author. We order in small quantities.  When something sells out, we will fill its spot on our shipping pallet shelves with a new title.

DETRITUS’ storefront will host engaging, interactive events that facilitate collaboration and engage the community. Events like multimedia readings, film screenings, workshops, and book signings. We want to bring our creative community together, and expand its reach beyond New Haven.

We’re actively developing inventory and resources for DETRITUS.  The Dirty Pond‘s DETRITUS is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions in behalf of DETRITUS may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.  You can support DETRITUS by making a donation here. Better yet, show up and buy something.

DETRITUS is made possible through the support of Project Storefront, a pilot program of New Haven’s Economic Development Corporation, Department of Cultural Affairs, and New Haven Festivals, Incorporated. Through Project Storefront and the Residences at Ninth Square, DETRITUS will be located at 71 Orange Street in the heart of downtown New Haven.

You can also become a fan of DETRITUS on facebook to hear about fresh inventory and upcoming events.
